Max

So I don't believe I have mentioned my 'other child' - Max (the cat). He turns 5 years old today!! Since his world is about to be completely changed by a screaming baby, I just wanted to acknowledge him as part of the Ski Family. It is hard for me to believe he is 5!

Nursery

The nursery is coming together! We just ordered the crib and it is absolutely perfect (to us). We are very excited!! (especially me =) ) Anyways just had to share because I was a little excited.

Week 16

This week only had 1 really interesting thing besides my strange dreams. I could somehow get the baby to move by listening to music. Not just regular music - disney music. How cool is that? So this kid is already taking after me (sorry Jim). I got to feel the baby move a lot during the last week so I know s/he is getting stronger. Only a little bit more till we can find out if it is a boy/girl!

Dreaming of a ...

So I have always had dreams that are pretty real feeling. This will probably sound crazy but the baby seems to be enhancing these dreams. For the first few months I would dream of baby boys - calling the baby by the boy name Jim and I have picked out. But for the last month all I dream is about a baby girl. Perhaps this is my brain playing tricks on me or that I had just completely convinced myself it was a boy and it wants me to explore the other possibility - who knows! All I know is I had a very, very scary realistic dream last night that involved labor to people visiting the hospital to going home with a baby girl. I just kept staring at the little pink bow they stuck in her head and saying, "But I thought you were a boy". So confusing! While there are members of my family that do not want to know what I am having and my sister is not finding out what she is having, I need to know now. At least that is one less thing to let my imagination run wild in my dreams. 30 days to go till I know for sure...

Week 15

This week went by quickly. Just a few random things from the week...

I felt the baby move a couple of times this week but I'm hopeful to feel more this next week.

I still have an annoying cold that just won't go away. I'm prepared to keep this during the rest of the pregnancy.

Jim and I figured out the furniture positioning for the nursery. We're going to be switching around the rooms the next few weeks so that we can go buy the crib in the next month.

Furniture Woes

This week has brought a lot of discussions of furniture and how to squeeze everything into the rooms we have available. We finally decided to sell my corner desk that I have had since I was 16. I'm sad to see it go but if you know someone that wants one, let me know!

Anyways, the next step is to actually move the furniture and buy the baby's furniture. My brother has graciously offered to help us move it in the middle of May. Then comes actually buying the crib and other items. We have the theme picked out but still need the actual furniture. I'm so excited about all of this...I don't even know where to begin. =)

Week 14

Week 14 has brought a series of new developments:
  1. On Easter Sunday I felt the baby move for the first time on the way to Jim's parents house for lunch. I then felt it move a couple more times on Tuesday but nothing since then. It was really cool!
  2. Tuesday we got to hear the heartbeat for the first time.
  3. Today I wore my first maternity shirt to work. It was weird.
  4. Today Jim and I found the perfect day care at Childgarden and signed up to start in January. I'm going to take off until then to spend time with the little one. I highly recommend this place from everything I have seen (even though we aren't there yet). It has day care for infants 6 weeks to pre-K. We were very impressed by everything we saw.
One thing that won't go away and has been with me for the past 4 weeks is this dang cold. Ladies, if you are pregnant do everything in your power *not* to get sick - especially with colds. I hate this so much (and i'm pretty sure Jim isn't a fan of me constantly coughing). It is miserable. =(

Overall it was a wonderful week of baby growing and I cannot wait to see what the next week will bring!!

April's Baby Appointment

We got to hear the heartbeat for the first time tonight. It was wonderful (once they were able to find it!). The little guy hides and moves around a lot. That is another first for this week...I can feel little flutters every once and awhile. It started last Sunday and I have felt it 3 times since then. It is amazing.

So for the appointment today they smothered the goop on there and then searched *everywhere* for the little guy. He apparently didn't want us to hear him...so instead we got to hear my crazy heartbeat go nuts. Once I calmed down he 'showed' himself and we got to hear it.

The checkup was great - everything is completely normal so that was really good news!

Next appointment is 5/9 to hear the heartbeat again and then on 2 weeks later (5/23) we get to learn if it is a boy or girl! Yay!!

1st Trimester Recap

I didn't have this blog up when I was going through the 1st trimester so I wanted to recap and brag on my great little one so far. Most people have a rough time with their 1st trimester. I was blessed to not have a lot happen to me. My symptoms included the following:
  1. Being exhausted - Well, you all know I could barely stay up past 9:30/10:00 anyways...well during the 1st trimester I could barely make it to 7pm! Jim got a lot of TV time. =) It is getting a lot better! I am back to making it till about 9:00 or 9:30 so that is nice.
  2. Nausea - Most people get very bad morning sickness but I never actually got sick. Just had very bad nausea for about 5 weeks and then it went away.
  3. Emotional - Alright, so this is to be expected and I am still experiencing this a lot, but I would cry at anything. A puppy. A baby. My cat being sweet (which is rare). Sadly - anything. That has calmed down a lot but I am still emotional. Hopefully I didn't drive Jim too crazy with it.
Now not everything has gone 100% according to plan. We did have a scare about 8 weeks where they thought I might be miscarrying but this baby is a fighter and is stubborn like his/her Mommy. Everything turned out to be fine and then they gave us another bit of news. That it might be twins. Well that totally drove me crazy until we had an ultrasound at week 10 and determined we just had one little blessing. So, just one Baby Ski is in the mix. =) It is very healthy and everything looked good.

Overall, this has been a wonderful experience and I have not had any complaints. The 2nd Trimester will be filled with more ups and downs and I cannot wait (swollen ankles and all!).

A First

So i've been feeling like a giant blimp and today I had a reason to. I went to the dentist and had my first experience with a swarm of women asking me when I was due. Now, of course, none of them knew I was pregnant...they just assumed. I was tempted just for a second to say I'm not....but then I think my face said it all. So, I had my first time someone came up to me and knew I was pregnant. I guess I am starting to show? To me I'm just getting fatter. =)

April Fools!

This one won't be related to the baby...

3 years ago today my wonderful husband proposed to me. I highly recommend proposing on April Fools to any couples thinking of getting engaged. There is nothing better than calling your friends/family and telling them the good news followed by them saying, "April Fools or really?".

I will never forget that night! Thanks Jim! =)

Thoughts/Feelings

I'm 13 weeks and have totally bonded with the little guy (again, convinced it is a boy). I talk to it constantly and thank it or my easy first trimester where I really didn't get severe morning sickness. It did, however, make me incredibly moody. The kid and I will have to find some way to make it up to the dad-to-be for putting up with me!

The first time I saw the little one on the ultrasound I just cried and cried. I mean, what else could I do? It was amazing. S/he danced around and waved at us. It was amazing. My only regret was that the printer was not working so we had to make a pathetic attempt at capturing the picture with our digital camera (see earlier post below). Jim/Dad was so excited I had to beg him to take a picture. It was definitely the best moment in my life (second to marrying Jim of course =) ).

In any case, now that this site is up and running, I will document the things that happen during the baby's growth. Our next doctor's appointment is 4.10 and we get to actually hear the baby's heartbeat! I cannot wait! We got to see it the last time but to hear it will be incredible!

Stay tuned!

Warning: Baby Fever

So I have to warn everyone - everyone is getting pregnant! So just be careful! Just in my life, this is my situation...

  1. My twin sister Erin - Due 9.7.07
  2. My cousin Kelly - Due 9.16.07
  3. Me - Due 10.6.07
  4. Another friend - Due probably sometime in November ( haven't gotten the exact date yet )
I know lots and lots of other pregnant people due this summer too! It is a baby palooza all over again!

Nicknames

It is a little tricky coming up with nicknames or the little one w/o knowing the gender...so far we have
  • Beanie
  • E.T. (not that we think it is an alien but it is taken from the boy/girl names we have chosen)
  • Munchkin
  • Sweet Pea
Any votes on what should actually stick? Personally, I love them all cause they relate to the little one (which i am convinced is a boy).
